Volunteering at the Wurstmart
The troop helping out
On this past Sunday, a few of our Scouts (as well as some of our adult leaders) volunteered their time to once again help the local community.
On Sunday, Holy Cross Lutheran Church held their annual Wurstmart. It’s an afternoon filled with great food and great fellowship that helps to support the church. As we’ve done in the past, Troop 1086 volunteered to once again help them out.
It was a simple task… Make sure everyone has plenty to drink. As people would come and go throughout the day, it was the Scout’s job to make sure there were drinks available as needed. They also supported the table servers as they took various drinks to the dining tables. It’s just one of many tasks performed throughout the day by volunteers to ensure that the event was a success.
Of course, the Scouts also stayed afterward to help with the clean-up effort. With the Scouts jumping in to haul tables back to the school and put away the chairs, it didn’t take long to get the cafeteria back to its normal state.
Supporting our charter organization
Our troop is always looking for ways in which we can volunteer our time and effort to help others. This event, however, is special. It’s an opportunity for our troop to give back to our charter organization who has supported us for many years.
Every BSA unit is supported by a non-profit charter organization. Holy Cross has supported our troop for many years. We’re always happy when an opportunity arises for us to give back to their organization. It’s a small way of saying THANKS for years of support.
More to come
November is a big community service month for our troop. In addition to the Wurstmart, we also participate in the annual Scouting For Food event, which will occur in a couple weeks. Events like these are a great reminder to our Scouts about the importance of helping others in our community.
