Reviewing Fire Safety at our Troop Meeting
The topic for our recent troop meeting was “Fire Safety”. We had quite a few Scouts at our meeting, and there was plenty for them to do.
Review Of The Basics
Our Scouts started the meeting with a review of the basic fire-safety practices and responsibilities that we follow whenever we’re at a campout. One of our youth leaders then went over the basics of safetly and successfully starting a fire.
As with most Scouts, ours love to have a campfire on our camping trips. Most times, we turn it into a friendly competition. They’re broken up into small groups, and then we see which can get our campfire started first. They always have a lot of fun, regardless of who wins.
With all of the practicing we do at our camping events, the Scouts had no problems at our meeting. Each group safely started their fire started with just their flint and steel. After they were done, they practiced putting out the fires to make sure everything safe before we left.
A Few Guests
As a bonus for this meeting, we had a number of Arrow Of Light Scouts visit us from Pack 39. Under the leadership of our Asst. Senior Patrol Leader, our Scouts did a great job of pairing up with our guests to help them out. Hopefully, they all had a great time!
