Rendezvous Weekend 2021

It was great to see the return of the annual Rendezvous event. It’s one more thing that gives the feeling of returning to normalcy.

This past weekend, our troop attended our district’s annual “Rendezvous” event. As their website states, it was a chance for our Scouts to “Go back to the time of the fur traders and trappers…to participate in period-authentic activities including black powder rifle shooting, blacksmithing, tomahawk and spear throwing, and much more.”

A number of our Scouts have been to this event before. Aside from last year (when nearly everything was canceled), this is something we’ve attended every year. While it may not have been new for them, it was yet another sign that we are slowly returning back to a “normal” schedule.

That said, we’ve been blessed to have a number of new Scouts join our troop lately. This means that some of them were attending this event for the first time!

Whether it is their first or fifth time, events like this are great. There isn’t a set schedule for the day, so the Scouts can choose what they want to do…adjusting as needed on the fly. Our campsite was close to the event, so it was easy for them to bounce between the event and our campsite.

While the event was just on Saturday, our troop camped at Camp Warren Levis that weekend. The weather was a bit of a challenge given the ever-present threat of rain. Luckily we didn’t get that much, and when it did rain, it didn’t really affect our plans.

As usual, our Scouts had a full meal plan for the weekend. They even did a mini “dessert cookoff” between the older Scouts and the newer one. It seems everyone was a winner… Not only were both desserts great, but they were also gone in no time.
