Giving Back at the Wurstmarkt Event
Every BSA unit is associated with a Charter Organization, which is an integral part of the unit. The Charter Organization helps to ensure that the unit has great leaders, provides a place for the Scouts to meet, and establishes the values that complement the 12 points of the Scout Law. For a VERY long time, Holy Cross Lutheran Church has supported our troop as our Charter Organization.
Whenever we have the chance, we try to help out our Charter Organization. Over the past year or so, our troop has been limited with regard to our opportunities to help. Like most organizations, Holy Cross has had to adjust its normal routine during the pandemic. This limited the number of social events and therefore limited the opportunities we had to help them out.
This Fall, they were able to hold their annual Wurstmarkt event! We were, of course, happy to help out with this in any way we could.
There are a lot of people who help to make this event happen. To make sure everything is taken care of, the organizers essentially assign an area of responsibility to each group. We’ve helped numerous times in the past… Normally our troop is responsible for making sure the drinks are readily available for everyone. While not difficult, it definitely helps, and we’re more than happy to do it.
This year was a little different. Guest made reservations in order to dine in. Even though seating was limited compared to past years, the overhead was higher than normal due to the additional procedures put in place to help provide a safe environment for everyone. As a result, our Scouts jumped in to help. Whenever a table was done, they quickly cleared everything off, sanitized the area, and reset it for the next group of guests.
As usual, they did a great job of representing our troop. We were more than happy to finally be able to help the church. It’s one of the few ways in which we can say THANKS for supporting us for so long!
