Providing a Lenten Meal for our Charter Organization

Our Scouts had an opportunity to help our Charter Organization tonight by providing this week’s Lenten Meal.

During Lent, our charter organization, Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Collinsville, serves a meal between the evening services. Each week, a different group associated with the church or school hosts the Lenten Meal. A few weeks ago, we learned that they still had a few slots open. So, we signed up for tonight’s meal and started planning for the event.

Every BSA unit has an associated “Charter Organization“. These non-profit entities support the units throughout the year in various ways. For example… Holy Cross, our charter organization, allows us to use their church basement every week for our meetings. They also let us use some areas in the church to store our camping gear, equipment, supplies, etc. They have been our charter organization for many years, and we are very grateful for their continued support. So, whenever we have an opportunity to do something for them, we do our best to make it happen.

Tonight’s Lenten Meal menu included pulled pork, hot dogs, beans, slaw, and chips. We also had a number of Scouts and parents graciously provide a huge variety of desserts! Several of the Scouts were out front serving food, while others were in the back preparing desserts and other items. They were also a huge help at the end when everything needed to be cleaned up. They did a great job, and as always, represented our troop well.

THANK YOU to all of the Scouts, leaders, and parents who helped to make tonight’s event a success!
