Merit Badge Class Registration

Merit badge classes often fill up FAST! Make sure you are ready by reviewing and completing the steps below:

1. Sign Up For Camp With The Troop

The first thing you need to do is to let us know of you are going. (And we hope all of you are!) Scouts, you can simply sign up through the event in the Band App. Adult leaders can do the same. Incoming AOL Scouts, simply reach out to someone in the troop, or have your Den Leader contact us.

When you register, we will need the following:

  • Scouting Member ID (for those not currently in Troop 86)
  • Emergency Contact (Name and phone number)
  • Allergies
  • Dietary Restructions
  • Medical Concerns
  • T-Shirt Size

2. Verify Access to the Parent Portal

Before the end of February, we will send each Scout/parent a link to their specific Parent Portal page. SAVE THIS LINK! You will need it to:

  1. Make payments
  2. Register for Merit Badge Classes

If you have problems access the portal, be sure to reach out to the troop ASAP!

3. Make Your Initial Payment

Full payment can be made at any time, but is not due until May 30th. However, if you pay in full by May 1st, you will receive the $30 early-bird discount.

Please note that a $25 deposit must be made before any class selections can be made. To avoid any delays, it is recommended that you at least pay this deposit at your earliest convenience.

4. Review the Class Offerings

As mentioned above, merit badge classes often fill up fast. You don’t want to wait until class registration open to start thinking about what classes you want to take. You need to have this all figured out BEFORE registration opens on March 2nd.

Earlier in this page is a link to the Class Catalog. This lists every class offered at camp. Use this to identify classes you are interested in taking. Then, use the Merit Badge Schedule (also linked above) to identify when each class is offered. You need to ensure that your classes do not overlap.

Note that we are attending during SESSION 3. Be sure to only look at the classes scheduled for that session.

The block schedule is a little confusing. A new schedule was published, which is now available via the link above. Here’s a summary:

  • There are still morning and afternoon blocks
  • Some classes run for 4 days (Monday – Thursday) during the morning block OR the afternoon block.
  • Other classes only last 2 days (Monday – Tuesday or Wednesday – Thursday), again, during the morning or the afternoon.
  • Additionally, Friday has its own list of classes provided.

When signing up for classes, pay close attention to the time and days that they are offered. Please try to fill all blocks for all 5 week days!

Note that some classes have an age requirement, require extra consent forms, and may require additional fees for equipment. Those fees can be paid through the Parent Portal.

First year Scouts… Can’t figure out what to take? Consider signing up for the “Brown Sea” program, offered Monday through Thursday during the morning block. In this class, Scouts will focus on the requirements of the first few Ranks. This is a great way to get a head-start on your rank requirements!

Pay attention to the prerequisites! These are the items that must be completed BEFORE you arrive to camp. They are listed in the Class Catalog with each class listing. (Note that some classes do not have any prerequisites.) Failure to complete your prerequisites may prevent you from fully completing the merit badge while at camp. You can, of course, complete it later, but make it easy on your self and BE PREPARED! A prerequisite form (linked above) must be completed and signed before we leave for camp.

5. Be Ready on March 2nd

Class registration opens the morning of March 2nd at 8 AM! Please be ready to register once it opens.

Health Forms – Doctor’s Signature Needed!

As with any Scouting trip, up-to-date health forms are required. Since this event is over 72-hours, you need to have parts A, B, and C. Note that part “C” requires a doctor’s signature. Don’t wait until the last minute to complete this. Take care of these ASAP. They are good for 1 year, so there is no point in delaying.

Swim Test

We plan to complete the BSA Swim Test before we arrive at camp. Later this Spring (or early Summer) we will schedule one or more days for completing this. Please watch for details.

This camp likely has an option for taking the swim test at camp. However, this always turns into a challenge as the arrival schedule rarely allows enough time for this. It’s much easier to have it done before we arrive at camp.

Preparing For Camp

Despite how it may feel, it really doesn’t take too much to prepare for Summer Camp. As usual, our troop will have all the patrol gear with us, including tents, cooking gear, and everything else we typically bring with us on campouts. Scouts simply need to bring their own personal items.

THAT SAID… There are several must-have, and many things you’ll likely want to bring. (Plus, there are a few leave-at-home items.) All of these are covered on our Troop Extended-Duration Trips page. From there, you can access our general packing list and other suggestions.

Get Ready To Have Fun!

Summer Camp is always a great time for our Scouts. You get a week away from home, get to hang out with your friends, and do lots of cool activities! These events are often one of the most memorable for Scouts long after they have aged-out. Don’t let this opportunity pass you by. Join us for Summer Camp this year!
