Troop 1086 Camping

Troop Weekend Trips

This page contains information specific to the short / weekend camping trips and events that we schedule throughout the year.

Be sure to check out the packing list page for hints and suggestions that will help you while you’re packing.

Before you arrive

Unless otherwise stated, please eat dinner BEFORE arriving at the departure location on Friday afternoon/evening. We normally do not stop for dinner or eat dinner at camp on the first night. However, we will have “Cracker Barrel” (snacks) once we’re at camp. The Scouts are encouraged to bring items that they can share with the group.

Please pack all of your items in a duffel bag, a backpack, or something similar. At most campsites, we can park next to camp, but we sometimes have to haul our gear to the campsite.

Aside from personal items, clothing, bedding, a mess kit, and a cup, most other items are beneficial but optional. More often than not, the Scouts do not use everything they bring. If they don’t think they’ll need it, don’t bring it.

Be sure to check the weather. This is especially important if there is a chance for rain, or if it’s expected to be cold at night. In those situations, it’s nice to have some extra clothing or rain gear, just in case.

When you arrive

We normally load all of the Scouts’ gear into the trailer. The quartermaster (or one of the adult leaders) will let the Scouts know when they can load their items into the trailer.

We will relay last-minute info regarding the schedule. The amount of info shared will depend on how much we know at the time.

Parents… Before your Scout leaves, ensure that you have phone numbers for at least 2 of the adult leaders attending the event.

Returning

Before we leave camp, if it’s known, we’ll call/email an ETA for our return.

Once we leave, we will have the Scouts call/text their parents (or whomever is picking them up) to give them an ETA. Please ensure that the Scouts have a valid phone number that can be used. They can borrow on of the adult leaders’ phones if needed.

Depending on the trip, we sometimes stop to get something to eat on the way home. The Scouts may want to bring a little cash along, if desired.
